We here at Zooey Magazine just passed a pretty huge milestone. One thousand Twitter followers. In fact, because of all you amazing people, at time of publishing we’re actually at 1140. We really thought that we were going to just hit a thousand this weekend, but the love and support we’ve been recieving from the community has blown past all of our projections! To celebrate this occasion I’ve got three things planned. First, I wanna start by just giving you some numbers. Second, I want to talk to you a little bit about how it’s going so far. Finally, I have a big announcement to make, so if you don’t want to listen to me ramble any more than I already do, feel free to just skip down to the bottom paragraph. But, to kick things off, some numbers!
I’ve always been a fan of when companies put out fun fact data points to celebrate milestones, and so I thought it might be cool to do the same! Starting off with some easy ones. We launched July 2nd, which means as of today we’ve been running for exactly 64 days. To date, we’ve published 25 articles, with this one being the 26th. That ends up being 55,611 words, and 316,300 characters that we’ve published. That’s as long as as a novel! In fact, The Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy, The Great Gatsby, and Farenheit 451 all clock in at around the 50,000 word mark. So if you’re someone that’s been reading all our articles as they’ve been coming out then congrats, you’ve basically read a non-fiction full length zoo book! As of writing, we still haven’t missed a single update on a weekend, maintaining our two article a week schedule perfectly. We’ve done four interviews so far, with our first being with Toggle, and our most recent being zip the day before this comes out! Our most viewed article so far is “Tips for coming out” with “Snake” taking second place, and “Zoosexuality and the LGBT” taking the third slot. The site currently averages about 5000 unique visitors per month, which I personally think is a pretty incredible number. Finally, counting interviews, we’ve had 11 different unique writers, with hopefully many more voices soon to be featured!
Looking at those numbers makes me happy. I’m really proud of what we’ve created. I know we’re still pretty small in the grand scheme of things, but I like to think that we’re using our platform to try and make zoo lives better. While a milestone of one thousand might not seem like a lot, an important thing to consider is that we’re a totally safe for work organization. This is the kind of account you only follow if you actually care about the zoo movement as a whole, and as of right now at least one thousand people (1140 people, thanks again) are in solidarity with that message. Which I think is pretty amazing.
Of course, it’s not just me running the show here. Lykon was the one who first came up with the idea, and has been instrumental in setting up the site to be as safe and secure as possible. Inter is our amazing editor, idea bouncer, and our navigator when I end up getting too spicey. And finally, Mike, who is always there to make sure that things keep on track, offer advice where we frequently need it. I couldn’t do anything without the help of the team behind me. If you’re all reading this, thank you so much. I hope you all know how much I appreciate your dedication and aid. Anyway, it wouldn’t be a milestone celebration without an annoucement, so lets get to it.
As of the posting of this article, we’re going to be launching the Zooey Magazine Discord server. The server is going to be entirely safe for work, and will be open for anyone interested in joining. For a long time, I’ve felt like there wasn’t a great space for zoos to hang out if they didn’t want to deal with people just being thirsty, or pure unfiltered hate. I also want somewhere that’s going to be approachable for people who are just curious about zoosexuality and are looking for a place that’s safe to ask questions and meet some other zoos. Part of the reason that I really want to try and create something like this is based off of my own experiences. I realized that I was a zoo when I was fairly young, and I got very lucky in meeting a number of more experienced zoos that were able to talk me through coming to terms with my zoosexuality. Without them, I know for sure I wouldn’t be as confident in my sexuality, or as content with myself as I currently am today. Unfortunately, meeting them involved getting pretty deep into a very sex oriented space, where I was potentially exposing myself to people who may have not had my best interest in mind. I got answers to a lot of my questions and made a lot of friends, but I was also exposed to content that may have not been the best for me to see, and that I didn’t necessarily want. With the Zooey Discord server, I want to find a balance between those two important things. I want to be a place where people can make those same friends, and have a place to ask questions with no fear of judgement or reprecussion. But I also want that space to be moderated, and have precautions in place to assure the safety of those who choose to join that community. Which is why I’m so happy to annouce that we’re going to be launching with an incredible moderation team! You may know CitrusShroom from twitter.
He’s helming the server in general, along with a few other moderators you might recognize. If you’ve made it this far in the article, I hope you come and check it out. It’s our first foray into this kind of community, and we have some fun stuff planned including potential community nights, events, raffles, and much more, all depending on the level of interest we get in the server. If you want to meet new people, make some friends, and just hang out in a chill space with some other zoos, come check it out! If you didn’t know, Discord recently just added the ability to easily swap between multiple accounts just like Twitter or Telegram, so it’s easy to have a zoo account and maintain your anonymity as well. We hope to see you there!
And that’s it! Thank you again, dear reader, for joining us on this journey. We’re just getting started here at Zooey. We’ve got some amazing stuff coming up, including more interviews, more fun surprises, and more articles written people that aren’t named Tarro. I hope that you stick with us, because we’re here for the long run.
Seriously, we couldn’t do this without you.
Thanks for reading.
